Murrayfield
Murrayfield still holds the record for the biggest attendance at a rugby game, when a crowd of just over 104,000 watched Scotland play Wales in 1975. The stadium was first used for an international in 1925, when Scotland beat England 14-11.
The ground had been purchased from the old Edinburgh Polo Ground at Murrays Field in 1922 for a sum of £3800.
A new-look Murrayfield was opened in 1994 by the Princess Royal, after a redevelopment costing £37million.
These days the stadium has a capacity of 67,500, with the popular terracing removed because of new safety regulations and demands for all-seater stadia
Edinburgh
John Jeffrey and Dean Richards once spent an evening following a bruising Championship encounter between Scotland and England at Murrayfield by taking the Calcutta Cup for a trip down Princes Street and all but turning it into the Calcutta Plate after a few high jinks and a couple of attempted drop goals.
Edinburgh, however, and its lovely central Old Town area, which sits below the majestic Castle, offers far more than that in the way of entertainment. It has all the benefits of a major city, but with an almost villagey atmosphere in places besides stunning architecture and scenery.
Shops, restaurants, theatres, galleries, pubs, sights Edinburgh can offer these and more. The city centre is also a short bus, taxi or shuttle journey from the airport, passing Murrayfield on the way, and central accommodation can be inexpensive compared with some of the other RBS 6 Nations venues.
