Scotland must attack - Godman

Stand-off Phil Godman hopes Scotland adopt an expansive gameplan in the autumn internationals and next year's RBS 6 Nations.
The Edinburgh playmaker returned to the international set-up during the summer tour to Argentina after an 16-month absence.

Godman’s previous appearance came during the home defeat to Italy in the 2007 RBS 6 Nations, when coach Frank Hadden’s attacking tactics backfired spectacularly as the visitors raced into an insurmountable lead.

However the number 10, who put himself in the frame for a Test recall with fine performances in the Scotland A side, believes chances must be taken if Hadden’s side is to progress.

He said: “The game against Ireland A was fantastic because they weren’t a bad side yet we created some great rugby that day. It just shows how effective that type of expansive rugby can be.

“Over in Argentina when we caused the Pumas problems it was by playing that type of rugby.

“Looking ahead to the Autumn internationals, that aspect is really exciting and it will be great to see how it all works against the world’s top teams. We will need time to become a real attacking threat as a team.”
